Thirteen apprentices of four different professions has built the GTI Austria golf with 333 hp for the GTI Festival at Lake Wörthetrsee in Austria. This is the first collaboration between the young talents of Wolfsburg and Osnabrück.
Automotive mechanics technicians, vehicle interior monters, models and painting technicians collaborated intensely for a year, from the first sketches to the world premiere in Kärnteen, Austria. Four women and nine men between 17 and 23 years redesigned a standard golf GTI cabrio with their optical and technical specifications.
The apprentices created their red and white prototype taking care of all the details both outside and inside the vehicle: they chose Oryx Blanco with pearl effect for the goat, with red flash stripes bordering the hood on the right and the left, and also on the sides. The outer mirrors are painted in red, just like brake tweezers.
The personalized characteristics of the apprentices individualized the interior of the vehicle further, for example the sporting seats in black, red and white with embroidery in red "Austria" and decorative finish in red and white, and the GTI letters blank on the doors. The air exits frames in the form of a honeycomb, the seams highlighted in the leather steering wheel and the base of the DSG change are also in red, as well as the safety belts. Even carpets have red edges.
"I have learned a lot about work in a project, and how important teamwork is," said the future technician in Automotive Mechanics Kevin Hoffmann talking about his experience as a member of the Wörthersee team. Together with his partner René Eichenlaub, he replaced the rear seats with a sound system with eleven speakers and 2,250 watts of power.
The apprentices chosen for the team are among the best in their classes. Under the guidance of the project director, Holger Schülke (Wolfsburg), and the reinhard Bosse trainer (Osnabrück), planned the prototype and created the project plans. The young people selected several components of the Volkswagen group and negotiated with the suppliers. In addition, they presented the milestones of their “Wörthersee Project” to the members of the Board of Directors and coordinated with the company's experts, for example with the designers. As a final touch, they baptized their dream as Gti Cabrio "Austria."
Projects such as Golf Gti Cabrio Austria allow Volkswagen to give their best apprentices an opportunity to expand their knowledge. The "Austria" is the sixth GTI created by apprentices that celebrates its world premiere in Reifnitz, at Lake Wörthersee. Previous models attracted large amounts of audiences in events such as the “Ideenexpo” exhibition in Hanover, among others.
