In the absence of a few days for the Paris Motor Show, Citroën reveals a new body of the DS line: the DS3 Cabrio. Its architecture makes it possible to take advantage of even the slightest sun ray, exceeding the limitations of traditional cabrios.
Its convertible roof enriches the wide customization fan, with three ceiling possibilities: black, infini blue and graphique ds. The DS3 Cabrio also inherits the sophistication of the DS line: adopts an innovative rear luminous firm with 3D effect and a cinematics of the unpublished back gate.
The DS3 Cabrio brings airs of modernity to the world of the Cabrio: one of its great advantages is that its roof is operated by means of an electrical button and closes in just 16 seconds while one circulates even at 120 km/h. The hood has three positions: intermediate, horizontal opening and total opening.
On the other hand, it is the only one that offers 5 real seats and has the largest trunk volume in its category (245 L). The habitability is outside the standards of the segment and is equivalent to that of the Berlin. Even the modularity of the rear sidewalk has been preserved (folding 2/3-1/3) to respond in this way to all situations of everyday use. For its part, the rear gate has a particularly original kinematics (circular translation) that allows a total opening of the trunk to be the space available behind (particularly in parking against a wall).
The DS3 Cabrio will be marketed, according to countries, since the beginning of 2013 and will have, since its launch, a version that will not issue more than 99g of CO2/km.
The inheritance of DS3: a unique style
The DS3 Cabrio inherit Personality of the DS, with its 3.95m long, 1.71m wide and 1.46m high. Keep the “floating” bi-tono ceiling, its shark fin, side air intakes, which underline the diurnal lights of LED and sign the front. The DS3 Cabrio also has LED rear lights with totally unpublished 3D effect and a chrome handle, which elegantly highlights the upper part of the rear gate.
An ultra customizable
roof, body vehicle, rearviews and wheels are other customizable exterior elements. If the Berlina has the possibilities of customization of the Urban Tribe roof, ONDE, Perle, Zèbre, MAP, Plane, Co Design, Flavio, Flower and Graphic Art, in the DS3 Cabrio the convertible roof is also an element of customization to be selected in 3 canvas colors: Black, Blue Infini and Graphique DS.
On the other hand, the dashboard decorations, the circular exits of the aerators and the knob of the gear lever maintain harmony with the colors of the body and fabrics, which are available 6 decorations: gray, bright black, white, carbotech, infini blue and Moondust gray.
Refined, even in the minimum details
composed of subtle unions of blue and violet, the Infini blue fabric stands out for its sophistication. The visual effect is obtained by the braided of 3 threads of different color, from which one is brilliant. Each thread reacts differently to light variations accentuating even more the unique character of DS3 Cabrio.
In the image of the big luxury houses, the DS plot, synonym for refinement and elegance, is seen on the graphique canvas of the DS3 Cabrio. This subtle motive is obtained by a proven jacquard between two gray joints and is combined with the Moondust gray color.
In coherence with its exterior lines, the interior of the DS3 Cabrio is impregnated with distinction. Thus, the roof console, where the opening command of it is located, incorporates a white LED lighting. On the other hand, the indicators of the instrument table and automatic air conditioning are coordinated with ambient lighting, also adopting the white color. The treatment of the interior trim of the fabric contributes, in addition to its acoustic role, to reinforce the sensation of quality. The seats incorporate new trimmed, especially with granite blue leather and the Akinen mesh, from now available in Mistral, Brown Chic and Infini Blue.
LED rear lights with 3D effect
The DS3 Cabrio has a 3D LED lighting. Its lines are inspired by the design of the rear lights of the Concept-Cars Revolte and Survolt.
The central space of the light is formed by a rectangular opaque guide of 31 LEDs and a set of semi-reflective mirrors and crystals, which reproduce the image of the light guide to infinity. This 3D module lights at night, when the lights are lit, and during the day, when the driver slows. A superior band formed by 15 LEDs highlights the 3D module. This band ensures the light and lateral lighting functions.
This 3D light has a chromed DS logo, skewered in a black ds plot plot.
DS3 road behavior
while most of the Cabrio versions provide an overweight of a hundred kilos to the Berlin, the Cabrio DS3 has an optimized architecture (only 25 kg more with respect to the Berlin) that the behavior of the DS3 does not adulterate.
Citroën engineers have managed to provide the Cabrio with a rigidity comparable to that of the Berlina. Above all, the lateral architecture of the Berlina have redirected and added structure reinforcements around the trunk area.
An intelligent architecture
apart from the advantages described above, the Citroën DS3 Cabrio has taken into account acoustics. A high quality canvas has been chosen, which provides acoustic reference insulation (comparable to that obtained in the Berlina DS3) and an aerodynamic deflector that guarantees optimal acoustic comfort has been conceived in an open position. It intervenes from the beginning of the opening of the roof, diverting the air flows and avoiding air turbulence in the cabin.
On the other hand, the work on aerodynamics has allowed to obtain an SCX of 0.69m2 identical to that of the Berlin. This result favors benefits, but also participates in the reduction of CO2 emissions. It has been obtained, above all, adopting a long rear spoiler as well as aerodynamic deflectors on the embelluiners of the rear side zone.
