Flooded vehicle, where to start? Posted by manual-mecanica
Good morning boys, since we had the workshop had never touched us such a job, yesterday they brought us a 214 rover that was under 1.20 meters of water. With a lot of cleaning, we managed to operate the ECU MEMS and the alarm module so that the alarm will not jump and release the ignition. We already remove the water from the cylinders, we are close to changing the oil, cash lubricant and all filters. Tomorrow we will change the distribution.
The big question is that we ask the alternator, starter and air conditioner compressor, do we leave them as they are and do a ignition test? Do we remove them and send to repair hand?

Thank you very much for the ideas and aid.
Juan.

Manual-Mecanica response on the Re: flooded vehicle, where to start?
If the flood was good, you logically have to drain and change all the vehicle's fluids including the brake fluid and fuel system, remember to apply pressure to the fuel lines to remove any sediment that is accumulated also includes the hydraulic steering system. Disconnect all electric harness plugs and apply a dielectric spray cleaner, this is to remove any trace of moisture and have no electrical problems. You can start the engine without alternator and without accessories by removing the bands, it is advisable to go empty for at least five cycles, this is to remove the spark plugs so that the compression expels the waste outside the cameras. Finally, both the cooling compressor as well as the alternator can be smiled and let them dry and verify their functionality since they are likely to only require lubricant. Greetings and good luck.
