It was in 1929, with 201, when Peugeot opened the denominations of models with three figures, articulated around central zero.
The denominations system used by Peugeot, the result of its own history, is structured as follows:
- The central zero corresponds to the identity of the Peugeot brand,
- The first number represents the size of the model segment,
- The number of the units indicates the generation of the vehicle.
This system evolved in the late 1990s, by integrating two -letter groups to define the different bodies derived from the same model (CC and SW).
Since 2005, it was also enriched with the names with double central zero with which the high structure models such as 3008 and 5008 are qualified.
International development has now led the brand to reinvent its denominations policy.
The future
from now on, Peugeot models will not change more name on the occasion of their renewal.
The "0" or double "0" Central will designate all Peugeot models, the first figure will appoint the segment symbol and keep it whatever the marketing destination of the same. The final figure will respond to new challenges and ambitions and will end in 1 or 8.
The models finished in "1"
As 201 qualified as robust and economical in its time, the "1" will represent the affordable and high value perceived models that correspond to the expectations of customers that prioritize the practicality of use, versatility and rationality.
The models in "8"
All models that are already designated with a final “8”, such as 308 or 3008, will retain their denomination when renewed and the current “7” models will be called with an “8” when they are replaced.
