Volkswagen shows in Tokyo the prototype of a new tourism, the Cross Coupé, a model that is between golf and tigüan.

The prototype that has been shown in Tokyo, with 4,345 mm long, 1,868 mm wide and a height of 1,523mm. In addition, Cross Coupé has a long wheelbase (52 mm more than golf and 26 more than Tiguan). Body's blasting are consequently short (855 mm in front and 860 behind). With the combination of these dimensions, the general proportions are very agile. The powerful image is reinforced by the widths of 1,585 mm in front and 1,613 behind.

Three engines in a car
Cross Coupé has three engines that work together in an efficient hybrid system. In front, under the hood, there is the 150 hp gasoline TSI, which generates a maximum 210 nm motor torque, and an electric motor of 55 hp and 180 nm of maximum motor torque. Together or separately, these two engines act on the front axle. If the Cross Coupé is used in the
four -wheel drive configuration or only in electric mode, another electric motor enters into the scene, which acts on the rear wheels and has been integrated into the coaxial unit of the rear axle. It generates up to 115 hp and a 270 nm motor torque. The total power of the three engines reaches 265 hp.

Battery tunnel
When the vehicle is driven in only electric mode, the engines receive the eight module lithium ion battery. This battery houses 9.8 kWh of energy and is located in the center of the central tunnel, where the transmission axis is located in a conventional SUV. The energy control module, which works at 370 volts, is integrated into the engine compartment and distributes energy from and to the battery and electric motors. Meanwhile, the low voltage electrical system of the Cross Coupé is assisted by the 12 volts of a DC/DC converter. The electrical propulsion system does not sacrifice space inside the vehicle. The battery can be charged through external sources (230 volt connection) or moving through the TSI engine or the regenerator (both axes).

Consumption of 2.7 liters to 100
with the tank fully full, the Cross Coupé weighs 1,748 kg (58% on the front axle and 42% in the rear). You can load with 450 kg and travel up to 40 km with fully electric food, so it does not generate emissions. In the new European driving cycle (NEDC), the TSI engine consumes 2.7 liters at 100 km, while emissions are limited to 62 grams of CO2 per km. With a 55 -liter deposit capacity, the theoretical autonomy in hybrid mode is 815 kilometers, which become 855 adding the electric mode.
