The BMW HP4 has a power of 142 kW (193 HP) and only weighs 169 kilos dry, which is why it is the 4 -cylinder supercar motorcycle, within the class of 1,000 cc, lighter to date. It is based on the BMW S 1000 RR - or RR to abbreviate.

The new HP4 is prepared from the factory for immediate use on the racing track, without needing elaborate modifications. But at the same time it offers great dynamic driving potential on interurban roads.

Equipped with Race ABS and dynamic traction control (DTC), the RR establishes a new reference point in its segment, technologically very sophisticated. But even the S 1000 RR left some margin of improvement.

Technical innovations for improved sports benefits.
The HP4 provides the homologation base for the use of BMW motorcycles in motorcycle races, especially in the Superbike and Superstock category. The new model presents numerous technological innovations that highlight its orientation towards races and racing track. The standard passenger armchair cover ensures the car -characteristic car appearance. But for the pilots they would like to travel with a passenger, BMW Motorrad also offers a passenger package as a factory option. In addition to the passenger armchair, this includes the restraint system for the passenger.

DDC dynamic damping control
This system allows the dynamic adaptation of the inverted fork cushion and the spring strut to the specific situation on the road. The damping adapts to the current maneuver or the surface of the road by means of parameters supplied through sensors by electrically controlled regulation valves. In this way, the HP4 offers optimal cushioning in each situation, taking care of long and short impacts in a practically perfect way to provide maximum traction and safety.

Higher benefit brake system and RACE ABS with IDM adjustment for maximum braking benefits

Release control for perfect outputs and change assistant for optimal gear changes
The launch control provides active support for the pilot in “slick” mode to achieve maximum acceleration from stop - for example in racing outputs. The launch control limits the motor torque to provide the maximum transferable torque from the rear wheel provided that the front wheel is not accelerating. This means that the pilot has to focus less on the accelerator because he is controlling the acceleration only using the clutch. In addition, when the launch control is activated, the motor torque is reduced as soon as the system detects the front wheel lifting. This prevents unwanted horses when it accelerates.

The HP4 allows the pilot to make instantaneous gear changes practically without interruption of the traction force by means of the change assistant, installed as a standard. This also helps to obtain valuable second fractions on the racing track.

Weight reduction due to forged wheels, lighter tooth wheel support, titanium exhaust system and lighter battery
The new wheels of 7 radios worked with precision in light alloy forged and a new lighter tooth wheel support give the HP4 a weight reduction of 2.4 kg compared to the RR.

The escape system is manufactured entirely of titanium and saves up to 4.5 kilograms compared to the RR, thus contributing to the improved handling qualities of the HP4. The new exhaust system has an interference tube between cylinders two and three, a controlled acoustic valve and a closed cycle catalytic converter. It has been possible to optimize the torque curve thanks to the new escape system.

Affinated engine configuration and more torque revolutions
The new HP4 is equipped with the 4 -cylinder water -cooled engine from S 1000 RR with a maximum power of 142 kW (193 HP) at 13,000 rpm and a maximum engine speed of 14,200 rpm. As in the RR, its maximum torque of 112 Nm is going to 9,750 rpm. The torque has been perceptibly increased in the interval of 6,000 rpm to 9,750 rpm. In the "Rain" mode now there is a softer power and torque curve between 2,500 rpm and 8,000 rpm.

Unlike the RR, the 42 KW (193 BHP) at 13,000 rpm power in all modes - “Rain”, “Sport”, “Race” and “Slick” - with an identical accelerator curve and, therefore, the same answer, which makes it perfect for use in the race track.

Supercaportive accessories for sports pilots
The instrument picture not only includes a new design sphere with the HP4 registration, but also provides an extended range of information and functions. The information screen now shows the DDC configuration menus as well as the precise adjustment figures of the DTC and the activation of the launch control.

In visual terms, also, the new HP4 is consequently in line with the supercar aspirations for the racing track and for dynamic driving on interurban road.
