Before the current economic crisis, where all the news comes loaded with pessimism and force many families to consider an optimization of their expenses, the RACC makes available to all users a package of tips to save with the car related to maintenance, insurance, driving and purchase, where it is mainly affects the use of the vehicle in a slow way, without stopping and accelerating much:

  • MAINTENANCE
  1. The tire pressure is fundamental. If they are excessively low of pressure, consumption is increased. If they are too swollen, the stability of the vehicle is committed and the braking distance is dangerously lengthened.
  2. Green tires. In case of having to replace the covers, it is very advisable to opt for ecological tires, low rolling resistance.
  3. Make the reviews indicated by the manufacturer. It will avoid more expensive repairs or consumption increases. For example, an excessively low oil level increases fuel spending. Also keep filters ready.
  4. Do not use premium fuel. The slight increase in benefits they add - only appreciable in a small number of vehicles - does not usually compensate for its most expensive price.
  5. Control consumption periodically. If you do not have an on -board computer, you can opt for this formula: fill the tank to the maximum and put the partial to zero account. When reproducing again, fill the maximum, write down the liters, multiply that figure per 100 and then divide by the amount marked by the partial accounting. This will obtain the average consumption in liters per 100 km. An anomalous increase in consumption is one of the first symptoms of a possible serious breakdown, in addition to supposing a greater expense.
  6. Air conditioner in perfect functioning. It is one of the systems that most penalizes consumption.
  • Role habits
  1. Perform an economic driving course. You can save up to 15% in fuel consumption. In our motor channel we already offered some tips of this type of driving (among other recommendations, we advise you to drive gently, avoiding large accelerations and strong braking. Enter the second march as soon as possible and try to circulate with the long marches as soon as possible). We remind you that with ecological driving you can save up to 200 euros a year.
  2. The trunk, only with what is necessary. Excess weight penalizes consumption (and compromises security). Heating the interior of the vehicle at a comfort temperature (22-23 degrees in summer) is sufficient
  3. Eye with aerodynamics. Portabycyclets, holder, holder chests and other elements that hinder aerodynamics entail a higher consumption. Leave them installed by laziness - typical of the car holders or carrier - when they are not really used increases fuel spending.
  4. Moderation with temperature. Heating the interior of the vehicle at a comfort temperature (22-23 degrees in summer) is sufficient.
  5. Plan the trip well. With the browser it is simpler. Without it, spend a few minutes before leaving to study the route well and make a companion tell you the right way. Avoid unnecessary surroundings.
  6. Look for the service station with a better price ... or closer. Do not despair. Put € 50 fuel at € 1.05 instead of € 1.07 means 0.9 more liters. With an average consumption of 7L, they are almost 13 km "free". It is not bad ... whenever reposting in the cheap gas station has not meant a rodeo. We recommend that you consult the price of gasoline on the web.
  • Before buying a car
  1. Ask for advice. In the same brand, model and version you can save up to 3,600 euros depending on the concessionaire, and obtain price differences of almost 19 %.
  2. Consider the priority use that will give to the vehicle. Do not acquire an SUV with a reducer if you never circulate outside the asphalt, or a sports car for urban use. Exorbitant power is already meaning.
  3. Optional equipment? The necessary. You can save on upholstery, decoration, paint ... never in security elements (ESC, Airbags, etc). Life is priceless.
  4. Study renting. For a fixed monthly fee, it will have a new vehicle and will only have to take over the fuel. It can mean a 20% savings on the financing of a car owned. For companies, SMEs or self -employed, renting is a deductible expense up to 100% in the Corporation Tax or IRPF. Of course, read the small print.
  5. Buy diesel if you travel more than 15,000 km a year. The price difference - diesel is usually 2,000 or 3,000 euros more expensive - can be compensated in the reposses.
  6. Choose the most appropriate financing. For example, option X+1 offers monthly installments 35% lower and a higher final share. Attempts to the Plan Live since it now offers a help to financing € 1,040 per car if you leave a car more than 15 years
  7. Less CO2, less rates. A car that emits less than 120 gr of CO2 per km are exempt from the registration tax. Those who issue the most pay 14.75%.
  8. Consider the echo versions that many manufacturers have launched in their most sales models.
  9. Attentive to the live plan. Now it offers a help to the financing of € 1,040 per car, if you discuss a car more than 15 years and buy a new one that broadcasts less than 120g of CO2 per km (140gr if it carries ESC). But the low response of buyers has already led the government to announce future improvements in the plan. We will have to be attentive.
  10. The warranty counts ... three years of guarantee better than two, and five better than three. An additional two -year guarantee extension can be hired from about € 400 depending on the brand and model.
  11. Buy the car you can maintain. Ask for the terms of the reviews, the average consumption of the vehicle, the cost of the post -sales service, the price of the insurance ...
  12. Zero kilometer and management. They have a lower price, a few kilometers and must have all the guarantees.
  13. The last of the generation. When a manufacturer changes the design of a model, the latest units of the previous model is offered with discounts of up to 20%.
  14. Seminuevos with guarantee. Another option not to spend much, especially if vehicles are offered with full guarantee.
  • Car insurance
  1. At all risk if the car has five years or less. It is the most recommended option.
  2. At all risk if you are still financing the car. It does not seem a good idea to suffer a total accident because of its own fault with a policy to third parties. Continue paying letters from a car that no longer discourages anyone. If you have the car five years or less, you better have full risk insurance
  3. Good driver? Opt for the franchise. An affordable franchise, for example of 200 euros, is an average reduction in the insurance at full risk of 33 %.
  4. Value to third parties if the vehicle is over five years old, although all parameters must be analyzed, including bonuses.
  5. Third parties, better with options. The robbery, fire and moons coverage make their policy very little and in case of need they avoid a strong outlay.
  6. Compare. According to RACC studies, for the same type of policy, vehicle and driver you can find price differences of more than € 1,000 in policies at full risk and up to € 300 to third parties.
  7. Opt for the flat rate. Twelve annual receipts are easier to assume than one.
  8. Take advantage of discounts. Some companies reduce the price of the car policy if others are hired (home, health ...) in the same company. Others offer sales if the car speakers in garage.
  9. Read the small print. And ask how the operation works, especially in case of incident. An example is the policies that offer you a free vehicle while repairing your own in case of incident; They allow you to save money by offering you a free alternative while you are without a car.
