For drivers, loading and downloading trucks is an activity that requires a lot of time. Therefore, Volvo Trucks has developed the remote control system, which makes the process easier. The benefits are translated and cost reduction for transport companies and a better work environment for drivers.
Until now, to check if the weight of the loads was well distributed, the driver had to go up and down several times from the cabin to look at the load indicator in the instrument panel. The work of raising and descending the truck is also done from the cabin, which requires a lot of time, is tired and represents a risk of falling for the driver.
Precisely to save time and reduce the risk factor, Volvo Trucks has developed the remote control, a wireless device that facilitates all these functions that the driver needs when carrying or downloading. With the remote control, the elevation and descent of the pneumatic suspension of the truck can be controlled to kneel the vehicle, the activation of the force, and the regulation the engine revolutions. They can also be associated with remote control extra functions of the instruments panel, such as crane controls or dump trucks.
"In the remote control, the driver can immediately see the load indicators, the weight and its distribution by axes both in the truck and in the box. In other words, the driver has in his pocket all the information he needs, instead of having to go and return from the cabin to the box. Thus the load process is more efficient," adds Christer Pehrson.
Remote control will be launched with the new Volvo FH and will be available in the market in 2013.
