Pegasus is a espionage software, developed by the Israeli company NSO Group, it is able to remotely access the phones to extract private information.

administrative interface of the Espía Pegasus software have been leaked , which allows the camera or the micro with a single click to be activated.

Pegasus is the spy software that has been spoken most in Spain, due to cases of espionage to members of the Catalan Generalitat and President Pedro Sánchez himself. However, it has always been a mystery, and so far we had not seen anything in its interface.

Many, including us, thought it was a command line application, but the truth is that it has a complete interface, with buttons to activate things like the micro or the camera. Although it is true that it is not a very careful interface, it has visual and simple access to all its functions.

Pegasus takes advantage of vulnerabilities to spy

All software is vulnerable by nature, no matter the effort that is put in obtaining a 100 % safe development: there is always a loophole through which an attacker can sneak until obtaining control of the software and the device that executes it .

These vulnerabilities are patching; either because they are discovered by their developers as the community that makes use of the software. Precisely, it is what happens with operating systems such as iOS or Android: they are very safe, but they often leave open doors that take time to close.

Pegasus takes advantage of the vulnerabilities to sneak into the phone, once inside it is able to do everything in terms of spying: from showing the content of WhatsApp messages to activating the camera to spy on the surroundings of the owner.

The screenshots that you can see on these lines came to light as a result of a investigation report by the Calcalist on the potentially illegal use of Pegasus by the police within Israel. According to the details of the interface (of which the version is unknown or if it is currently used), it allows:

  • Activate the phone's microphone to listen live to the owner and anyone who is with him.
  • Activate the telephone camera to take snapshots from the surroundings.
  • Listen to recordings captured with incoming and outgoing phone calls.
  • Read text messages.
  • Reading WhatsApp messages.

Pegasus is created by NSO Group, who developed his attack and espionage software by adapting it to the different vulnerabilities that both Android and iPhone mobiles suffered.

Given its proven effectiveness, the Israeli company sold its product exclusively to governments and as a tool to " prevent terrorist attacks, dismantle pedophilia, sex and drug trafficking networks, locate missing and kidnapped children, locate travled survivors under collapsed buildings and protect airspace against the disturbing penetration of dangerous drones ."

Pegasus is currently not available for use (or at least VSO Group does not make public reference to him ).
