Hello for what you say I recommend you disassemble and review the following details:
the fork that the collar operates should not be crooked and in many models it carries a bolt that ends in a ball that makes the fork pivot you must also check its condition and grease.
Before disassembling the press, look that the diaphragm of the press is not sunk in its center, that is, it is not plane with respect to the body of the press if it is means that the clutch album is very thick.
Also corroborate what Mov 1973 tells you about the position of the album.
