In just 12 months, the number of fast loaders for electric vehicles (VE) installed worldwide has doubled. In Europe, America and Japan there are already 2,000 units. At the end of this year it is expected to reach the figure of 4,000 fast loaders installed.

Fast loaders recharge the batteries in minutes instead of in hours to increase the tranquility of electric cars and increase the practicality of zero emission transport.

Commenting on the fact that it has already reached 2,000 fast Chademo type , Toshiyuki Shiga, president of the Chademo fast chargers in the world but the vast majority of them were in Japan."

"Today, we have more than 2,000 quick Chademo loaders installed in Europe and the United States, in addition to Japan and there is even one in Abu Dhabi, Petroleum Paradise. And the plans are to fold that figure and exceed 4,000 at the end of 2013."

Chademo Association was founded in 2010 by different leading companies in the development of electric vehicles in order to establish a unique standard for fast loaders .

The Association groups a conglomerate of companies and entities from different areas, from ITC manufacturers and electrical material to car builders, equipment manufacturers, local governments and recharge service operators. It currently has more than 430 member organizations in 26 countries and among European entities, PSAot Citroën, ABB, Schneider Electric, Siemens, E.ON, Enel and Endesa can be cited.

In addition, Chademo is the only -available DC charging system electric vehicles and their equipment is used by more than 50 operators in Europe and the United States.

There are currently more than 70,000 electric vehicles worldwide compatible with the Chademo belonging to 19 different models, including the Nissan Leaf, Peugeot Partner Electric, Mitsubishi I-Miev, Citroën C-Zero and Toyota Eq.

Chademo facilities is the West Coast Electric highway, a road of 1,300 miles (2,100 km) that follows the entire North American west coast, from the British Columbia to the Baja California in which 40 quick Chademo loaders , with one of them every 25 to 50 miles.

Quick Chademo chargers are already in 23 countries throughout Europe, in strategic locations such as main highway service areas that link the largest cities on the continent or parking centers that allow drivers to recharge the car while making their purchases.

Norway, a country in which electricity production is mostly carried out from renewable energy, enhances electric vehicles . For this reason, it has promoted rapid growth of the quick recharge points . In that country it has gone from a single point in 2011 to more than 50 today with new openings every month.

The real experience in Japan demonstrates how the expansion of the fast loaders completely changes the daily use of an electric vehicle . When there were only two quick Chademo loaders in the 218 miles (350 km) of the Tokyo and Nagoya highway to the west, only 19% of electric vehicle were thrown into the journey. But when the number of fast loaders increased to six, also located at strategic intervals along the route, electric vehicle had the peace of mind that they would never be far from the nearest charger. As a result, the number of electric vehicles that used this highway increased to 46%.

A fast Chademo charger provides 50 kW of high voltage current (DC) through a special safety connector whose specifications allow it to support up to 100 kW. By supplying DC current directly to the car taking, the Chademo can recharge the battery at 80% of its capacity in a time between 15 and 30 minutes.

Since its launch in 2009, the cost of a quick Chademo charger has been reduced to less than half and today costs between $ 20,000 and $ 30,000. Also, its dimensions have also been reduced by half.

The fast Chademo charger will be included as a standard type by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in 2013, which will expand its development by facilitating its certification to third parties.

All this will be necessary since it is expected that the sales of electric vehicles will increase significantly in 2013. NISSAN will manufacture the Leaf in Great Britain and the United States and PSA Peugeot Citroën will start the production of electric vehicles in Spain. These factors will entail an increase in the demand for quick recharge networks and rapid expansion.

The name Chademo is an abbreviation of the phrase 'Charge of Move' or 'Charge for Moving.' It is also an expression in Japanese that could be translated by tea? in reference to the short time necessary to load the battery of an electric vehicle .
