Possible mechanical deception concessionaire published by Manual-Mecanica
I have a Renault Clio 1.4 16V. A year ago I changed the distribution strap and also the so -called "auxiliary strap" of the distribution (and related accessories).

Recently I had a breakdown because the auxiliary run of the distribution was broken, which in turn also broke the main strap, which soupted a serious breakdown in the engine.

When taking the car to the mechanic where I am always, he tells me that the breakage of the auxiliary strap takes place because one of the pulleys that the ends has moved and has ended up cracking the auxiliary strap. Since this pulley is not changed when changing the auxiliary strap (according to him, no mechanic does), the current fault has nothing to do with the repairs made a year ago, so it does not enter within the repair guarantee.

I would like to know if someone can tell me whether when the distribution strap is changed and the auxiliary strap must also be changed or not.
Gracias for your attention.

Manual-Mecanica Response on the Re: Possible Mechanical Dealership
Hello: a long time ago the company in which I worked had N Opel Astra, in a repair the two straps that changed to yours changed and almost a year the air conditioning strap was broken and in turn it broke the distribution strap, the car was going on the highway so the cylinder head.
The concessionaire said that it was not their fault, but it turns out that if their obligation is also to change the tensioners of said belt so that this does not happen, which had to repair the car in Garntia (new cultured cult included).

I hope this information helps you something.
all the best

Hello friend, as the fellow Tapipe says when changing distribution strap, the tensioners are also changed is an elementary security rule to avoid that type of fault, I think they should take care where they did the job, luck and greetings. :)

Rokanrol, you must be careful when writing in the posts, because you talk about the straps changing and that is ok, the tensioning bearings are also changed every time you change the mail as a safety form, as Jal says, but you talk about the pulleys, the pulleys do not change when you change a strap is not done because it is not necessary not to be deteriorated or chopped, or that their place of Anchoring of this these in poor condition. Now it is extremely difficult and also strange and it happens very rarely that when cutting the strap of elements or auxiliary, cause damage to the distribution strap because you are separated and do not bring one on the other they are separated by a plastic metallic cover, which can occur to cause damage to the two straps is that the Damper or pulley of the crankshaft is left. butt, otherwise it cannot be. It is possible that this is successful because it is seen in many cases for example the Honda engine where it is rolls this pole in the chavete and what happens to you occurs, the other after a year after a year is difficult for it to be warranty, since if it was due to bad procedure or twin of the mechanic the failure to appear before a month.

If it is in guarantee and maintained by them it is their obligation to solve the problem but make a letter document. My boss was bought a L200 at 80,000 km, I took her to do the Service and required them to change this belt 0km. Do not sleep if the car is within the guarantee
