The fall of car sales due to the crisis, has not been an impediment to the great expectation with which the Geneva Motor Show started, in its 79 edition. More than a hundred new models were presented to the 700,000 attendees, who could observe how avant -garde ecology and technology were the common denominators of this meeting.
February left negative data for the motor world. The sale of cars fell 48.8% in Spain, a reflection of collapse worldwide. Despite current pessimism, the 79th edition of the Geneva Motor Show, held from March 3 to 15, started with the assistance of many manufacturers.
Some 700,000 were attendees to this already veteran exhibition, where the houses had 250 stands, to expose more than a hundred novelties. Some looked more austere than in previous editions, as is the case of the General Motors giant. In spite of this, the sensations are good and all brands expect to give a rapid exit to their prototypes and real designs, such as the new Volkswagen Polo and Fiat 500c or the six models presented by Renault: Scénic, Mégane Sport Tourer, Clio, the Mégane Renault Sport and the Clio Renault Sport.
On the other hand, the new Toyota car, Peugeot 3008 and the BMW 5 GT Concept. Chevrolet will manufacture a complete range of cars fed with LPG (liquefied oil gas) and Land Rover bet on the ERAD hybrid diesel system.
Vanguard technology aimed at caring and protecting the environment was the queen of this room. Seven runners of the 5,000 square meters of the exhibition are dedicated to the so -called green cars. Opel and its ampera electrical model are a good example of this work towards the balance between progress and environmentalism.
In addition, the Tesla electric vehicle occupied an outstanding place, with an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds and autonomy for 390 kilometers. Finally, and speaking of the future, Rinspeed will propose an original modulable car, which lengthens and shortens at will and is conducting, in part, through an iPhone.
