Volvo Trucks has an engine that meets Euro 6 environmental regulations. This engine reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by 77% and particles by 50%.
The Volvo D13 for Euro 6 is based on the engine tested and proven Euro 5 of Volvo, which differs from it in which it uses the recirculation of the exhaust gases (EGR), as well as a filter of diesel particles (DPF), systems that Volvo Trucks has already used for several years in the United States and in Japan.
Priority in fuel savings and reliability
The SCR system, which converts the harmful nitrogen oxide of the exhaust gases into innocuous nitrogen and water vapor, is integrated with the particle filter into a compact unit that occupies the minimum possible space. The particle filter, which captures and incinerates the microscopic particles found in the exhaust gases, is automatically regenerated during the operation of the truck. The EGR is mainly used to increase the temperature of the exhaust gases when the engine is not hot enough to heat these gases, which must reach at least 250 ° C so that the SCR system works optimally. Unlike conventional EGR systems, the EGO 6 EGO 6 EGR system is practically inactive during driving on highways, so that it does not affect fuel consumption during these operations.
"We have developed a reliable solution that not only satisfies the issuance requirements, but also provides customers added, such as a good fuel savings and maintenance problems," says Mats Franzén.
Future on Euro6 regulations
Since February 2012, it is possible to certify vehicles according to the new Euro 6 regulations, but for two years it will not be mandatory, so the demand for Euro 6 trucks by customers is not yet very high. On the other hand, strict regulations on emissions entail advanced technology in engines, including many new components, which in turn translates into more costs for customers. However, this increase in costs can be partially compensating for various financial stimuli and incentive packages, especially in local or long distance traffic operations in Europe.
