BMW GS has been synonymous with the pleasure of driving and adventurous spirit for more than 30 years. The GS was always distinguished by its versatility, being an appropriate motorcycle to travel sinuous roads, travel quickly on the highways, walk relaxed alone or accompanied and, also, travel by rugged camps.

The current BMW R 1200 GS, in its ninth year of manufacture, continues to convince for its innovative technology. From this model more than 17,000 units were sold, so it is the best -selling enduro in the world. Now its goal is to develop a new improved version of the GS, preparing it for the future. In that sense, the general benefits of the motorcycle have been increased once again, to improve the route qualities, increase their ability to travel through injured land, improve power values ​​and benefits in the segment of the enduro motorcycles, ensure the future of the motorcycle considering the noise level and the emissions of exhaust gas, configure the chassis so that it is very maneuverable, increase the active and passive safety, to increase the active safety, to increase the active safety, to increase the active safety. An unmistakable design and ensure a maximum quality level. With everything it was decided to redefine the R 1200 GS completely, especially as regards its propeller set.

Thus, the new BMW R 1200 GS includes a new air and water cooling boxer engine, with vertical flow, integrated gearbox and cardan on the left side.

In addition to reaching the levels of benefits and complying with future standards related to noise levels and exhaust gas emissions, the cooling system was modified.

However, the oil cooling system was replaced by a new refrigeration system by mixing ethylene glycol and water. In this way, the coolant has better thermal qualities, as it manages to dissipate the heat more efficiently.

With this system called precision cooling (similar to the one used in formula 1), only the motor components that are subjected to the highest thermal efforts are refrigerated by refrigerant fluid. The propeller as such continues to refrigerate mainly by air, so the design of the boxer engine is maintained. The two radiators are small and integrated so that they hardly attract attention.

To obtain a better filling of the flow of the coolant, the flow now occurs vertically, instead of being horizontal as before. The six -speed gearbox is integrated into the engine body. In addition, a clutch was chosen in oil bath with anti-reote function (anti-hopping), instead of the dry clutch used before. In addition, secondary propulsion is still in charge of the efficient cardan, although in the new version it is located on the left side. Thanks to its 92 kW/125 hp power, available at 7,700 revolutions, and at 125 Nm at 6,500 rpm, the new engine marks a new reference ribbon in the Route -Enduro motorcycle segment, both for its power and its performance.

The DIN weight (in the order of march) of the new R 1200 GS is 238 kg, including the BMW Motorrad Integral ABS system, including standard.

Electronic speed accelerator and speed regulator

It is the first time that a Moto GS has an electronic accelerator. With this accelerator, driver's intentions are transmitted directly to the engine control unit through a sensor found in the fist. The control unit regulates the butterfly electronically. Thanks to the electronic accelerator system it was possible to improve the dosing and accelerator responses considerably. Additionally, the driver has the possibility of choosing between five driving modes (optional equipment), modifying the characteristic operation of the engine in order to adapt it to the circumstances of the driving. In this way it was also possible to include an electronic speed regulation system (optional equipment).

Optional equipment
The new R 1200 GS allows you to freely choose between five driving modes, according to driver preferences and according to the circumstances of driving. These modes are combined with three different accelerations of the accelerator and, therefore, many other modes of operation of the engine. This mode selection system is offered as an optional factory equipment. This system is linked to automatic ASC stability control (Automatic Stability Control), which has been specifically adapted to the characteristics of an enduro motorcycle. If the client chooses to acquire this equipment, also the anti -locking system of the ABS BMW Motorrad brakes, the ASC system and the electronic regulation suspension (assuming the motorcycle takes it) agree with the corresponding profiles of the driving modes.

Electronic regulation suspension BMW Motorrad Dynamic That optional
The new semi -active electronic regulation system of the Dynamic Suspension that BMW Motorrad (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) expands the possibilities of driving and, in addition, increases the level of safety and motorcycle benefits. Dynamic that has a vertical travel sensor of the front suspension and another that detects the, also vertical route of the rear suspension. These and other data are used to regulate the suspension based on the dynamic behavior of the motorcycle and the maneuvers performed by the driver, according to the circumstances in each case. The adaptation of the front and posterior suspension is carried out by regulatory solenoid valves.

New double beam chassis of steel tubes
The new R 1200 GS is based on a completely new double beam chassis, with continuous steel tubes. Subchasis is screwed to the main chassis. Thanks to this configuration it was possible to significantly increase torsional stiffness, which results in a more stable and precise dynamic behavior of the motorcycle. The sophistication of the geometric configuration of the chassis leads to a better maneuverability of the motorcycle, as well as the swinging monobrazo guarantees a better traction capacity.

On the other hand, in the new R 1200 GS the format tires 120/70 R19 (forward) and 170/60 R17 (back), conceived for higher benefits are premiered worldwide.

Remodeling brake system
also the brake system of the R 1200 GS was subject to a deep remodeling. Now carry jaws radial fixing monobloc, while the rear brake disc has a greater diameter than in the previous version of this model.

Very much in accordance with the "360 °" security criteria of BMW Motorrad, the new GS also includes the ABS BMW Motorrad System, in this case in its intelligent version.

First motorcycle in the world with the main lighthouse of luminous diodes
The main lighthouse that the new R 1200 GS carries as standard, has an optimized light capacity. It has a day conduction light and a main lighthouse of luminous diodes with integrated daytime light. With this optical group, driving becomes safer, both day and night. In this lighthouse, the most innovative LED technology is used, with ingenious refrigeration and defrosting system.

Electrical system with new on-board network, with multi-controller

The new R 1200 GS is equipped with the innovative on -board network system, with a new division of functions. This system is already used in six -cylinder models K 1600 GT and GTL. With Can-Bus technologies (Controller Area Network) and Lin-Bus (local interconnected network), a much lower wiring system is obtained, compared to conventional systems. The previous Central Electronic Unit (ZFE) was divided into two individual control units.

The Multi-Controller, new in the GS, allows us to use the BMW Motorrad Navigator IV navigation system faster and more comfortable. The multi-controller is located inside the fist on the left side. This control unit distracts the driver less than a control system by keys. In addition, he does not have to take his hand from the handlebar's fist.

Optimized aerodynamic qualities
The new dome of R 1200 gs protects better against wind and rain and, at the same time, causes less noise. The regulation of the position of the dome is performed with one hand, using an ergonomic adjustment of easy access adjustment.

The seats of the new R 1200 GS have a greater margin of adjustment, so the comfort is optimal. In the case of the driver's seat, height and inclination can be regulated. The companion's seat can be adjusted horizontally, in order to obtain an optimal distance between the two occupants of the motorcycle. To regulate the height of handlebars, there is nothing more to turn it. This adjustment operation is very simple. In addition, the knee support zone in the deposit was ergonomically optimized, so the pilot can master his motorcycle more security when driving on injured land supported by the stirrups. The possibilities of finding the ideal position through the seats are completed with various optional equipment: higher or lower seats, adjustable stirrups and brake levers and changes, also adjustable.
